Did you know that just above Rovereto is the largest in Italy discovered deposit of fossils of dinosaur footprints? A particular experience, usable independently or accompanied by experts of the Civic Museum in Rovereto in guided tours on the second Saturday of each month, from April to October.
From Rovereto drive up the shrine of Castel Dante and follow the "Road of the Gunners" until the Alpine hut (parking). From here you return along the way until the beginning of the path of the dinosaurs. In about 30 minutes you walk away in the footsteps of the dinosaurs, clearly visible on a steep gully.
The whole environment around is impressive, made of huge rocks, cliffs and fallen rocks in ancient times, the famous Lavini of Marco, also cited by Dante in his Divine Comedy. The area is dry and sunny, so in the summer it is recommended to bring a bit of water with you, especially if you view the site with children.
The footprints are divided into two main carnivores and ebivori groups; a good number of footprints left by herbivorous dinosaurs is in excellent condition, easy to recognize one after the other steps of the animals in what was once mud.
